Contact your family doctor or go to the appropriate medical facility for treatment.

If the animal is wild, Animal Control officers will set a trap. If the animal is domesticated, Animal Control officers will check with the owner to determine if the animal is current on its rabies vaccination.

If the animal is not current on its rabies vaccination, it will be transported to a licensed vet for a ten-day observation. If the animal has to be killed, the head will need to be sent off for rabies testing.

2. What must we do if we would like to have a funeral and burial at the cemetery?

All burials, except cremations must go through a funeral home. You must purchase a space if one is not already owned, pay the opening and closing fee and sign for permission to open and close.

All funerals and burials require 24-hour notice to the cemetery office. For Saturdays, the office must be notified by Thursday at noon.

1. Do I need a license or tag for my dog or cat? What is the cost for a pet license?

Pet licenses are required by City Ordinance and are available for purchase at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 104 S. Muskogee. The cost depends on whether or not your pet is spayed or neutered. If the animal is spayed or neutered, the cost of the license is $5 and is good for the life of the pet.

If the animal is not spayed or neutered, the cost of the license is $20 and is good for the life of the pet.

You must provide proof of current vaccination at the time the license is purchased.

2. Do you have a city map?

Yes, City of Claremore maps are available at the City Clerk’s Office, located at 104 S. Muskogee, at no cost.

3. Can I get a marriage license at the City Clerk’s Office?

1. Why did I receive a letter from Code Enforcement for my private property?

Every citizen has responsibilities to the community in which they live. Proper maintenance of each property ensures the health, safety and welfare of the community as a whole. The City of Claremore has a property maintenance code as well as ordinances by which citizens are required to abide. These codes and ordinances apply to all private property within the city limits.

2. Where can I put my sign?

No sign is allowed to be in the city right-of-way (usually the area between the line of utility poles and the street). No sign is allowed to be affixed to a street sign, traffic signal pole or utility pole. All off-site signs are prohibited. Garage/yard sale signs can only be placed in the yard of the sale location. Real state signs can only be in the yard of the property that is for sale. Permits for business signs can be obtained through the office of Planning and Zoning.

3. How tall can my grass be before it’s out of compliance?

Tall grass is in violation of City Ordinance once it grows to 12 inches tall over 20% or more of a yard. For more information, view the Weed Abatement Page.

1. When is my court date?

Municipal Court is held every Tuesday at 1:30 pm at City Hall, located at 104 S. Muskogee. If you do not appear for Court on your scheduled date, and your fine is unpaid, a warrant will be issued for your arrest.

2. Where can I take my driver’s test or get my drivers license renewed?

Claremore’s Driver License Exam Site is located at 2060 S. Hwy. 66 in the Market Shopping Center. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am - noon and 1:00 pm - 4:45 pm. For more information, call (918) 342-2490.

3. What should I do if I get a ticket for no insurance verification, but I do have insurance?

You must bring the proof of insurance to the Office of the City Clerk, located at 104 S. Muskogee. The proof of insurance must list the exact car and the exact time frame of the ticket. This must be done before noon on the day of your scheduled Court appearance.

1. Can I burn in city limits?

In some instances it is legal to burn inside city limits, as long as it is not in a residential area. You must apply for a burn permit in person at the Fire Administration Office located at 121 N. Weenonah Ave. between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Fire Marshal must approve your permit before you can burn. The Fire Administration Office is closed on holidays.

2. How do I get copy of a run report?

Yes, Internet access is available for public use at the Will Rogers Library. Computers are available on a first come, first serve basis. Time is limited to one hour due to demand. Printing is available for .10 per page.

6. How can I donate materials to the Library?

The Will Rogers Library welcomes donations of new and used books, movies, magazines and music materials in good condition. We do not accept encyclopedia sets or textbooks. Donations may be brought to the Library circulation desk during hours of operation. Please do not place donations in the book drop or leave donated materials outside when the library is closed. Donors may request a receipt for tax purposes.

7. Can I borrow books from another library?

Yes, we have interlibrary loan services. You may request up to two items at a time. There is a $2.75 per item request fee. Only print items may be requested. Movies and audio are not available through interlibrary loan.

8. Does the Library have a Summer Reading Program?

Yes, the Library has Summer Reading Programs for children ages 6-10, and for Young Adults ages 11-17. Participants must have a current library card. 1. Who should I call if there are tree limbs near my electric lines?

Any limbs near or touching electric lines are a concern the city needs to know about. Contact the utility office at (918) 341-0456.

2. I’ve called the city in the past about tree limbs in my electric lines, but nothing has been done. Why?

The City’s electric system, or grid, is vast and maintenance operations are continuously ongoing.

The City has a maintenance contract with a line clearance company to clear the City’s electric lines. Urban lines (those within the city limits) are currently on a three-year cycle to be trimmed and the rural lines (outside the city limits) are on a five-year trim cycle.

All reported concerns are entered into a computer and assessed by city staff. You can check the status of a reported concern by calling the utility office at (918) 341-0456.

3. Is there anything the city can do about a person in my neighborhood who is not taking care of their property?

In many cases, yes. If the concern is a violation of City Codes or Ordinances, the issue will be addressed by the City’s Code Enforcement Office. Call (918) 341-8842 to report any code enforcement issues.

1. Do I live in the city limits or in the county?

Some people who have Claremore addresses do not live in the Corporate City Limits. If you are unsure if you are a City of Claremore or Rogers County resident this may help you determine which is accurate. If you live south of Lowery Road and North of Flint/King Road you are probably inside the city limits. If your zip code is 74019, your street address has five digits or you live on a street numbered above 450, you are a Rogers County resident. Rogers County residents should direct their questions to the Rogers County Planning Office at (918) 341-0486.

2. What if I have a Planning and Zoning related question, but live outside the City limits?

This department handles matters within the corporate limits of the city of Claremore only. If you live outside the city limits, you should direct your questions to the Rogers County Planning Commission at (918) 341-0486 or visit this website.

3. Why can't I do something now that my neighbor did three years ago?

The planning staff, on behalf of the City of Claremore, is responsible for upholding the current Codes and Ordinances fairly and evenly among all citizens. Codes and Ordinances must change as our City continues to grow and as state and federal laws mandate. Often, any conditions that existed before the passage of a new ordinance are legal non-conforming uses, commonly referred to as “grandfathered” uses. Alternatively, your neighbor may not have followed the proper permitting procedures leaving staff unaware of a violation. If that is the case, the Claremore Code Enforcement can address this problem.

4. Does the Planning and Zoning division plan what Claremore will look like?

The Planning and Zoning division directs proposed development and growth in Claremore through existing Codes and Ordinances such as the Comprehensive Plan, Subdivision Regulations and City Codes and Ordinances. We do not tell individuals or organizations what they can or can not locate in Claremore, but do advise them of zoning codes and other pertinent features that detail what can and can not be approved in certain areas of the city.

5. What new businesses are coming to Claremore?

Business recruiting is handled by CIEDA. Often developers must remain secretive as business deals are being closed and the planning staff may remain unaware or be asked not to publicize potential projects. 6. What type of work requires a permit?

Any work that involves using one of the trades (plumbing, mechanical, electrical, etc.) to complete the job requires a permit. Any interior remodel job that does not involve the trades does not require a permit.

7. How much are your license and permit fees?

The fees are based on the individual structure and typically range from $5 to $100. The fees handled through Development Services can be found in the City Code of Ordinances in Chapter 150.

8. Why do we have to do things in Claremore that are not required in Tulsa, Owasso and other parts of Rogers County?

Claremore shares many similarities to its neighboring communities; however, a close comparison will highlight a number of differences. Each community is able to set its own Codes and Regulations that are unique to that community (within the confines of state regulations). Codes and Regulations are adopted at public City Council meetings where citizens are allowed to voice any concerns.

Yes, any person operating a bicycle shall obey the instructions of official traffic-control signals, signs and other control devices applicable to vehicles unless otherwise directed by a police officer.

5. Do I have to have a headlight on my bicycle?

Claremore city ordinance states that bicycles in use at night-time shall be equipped with a lamp on the front which shall emit a white light visible from a distance of at least 500 feet to the front.

Claremore has curfews in place for juveniles to help keep them safe. The curfew hours on Sunday-Thursday are 11:00 pm - 4:00 am. The curfew hours on Friday and Saturday are 1:30 am - 4:00 am. Exclusions include going to or from work, school function, church function or an official errand for a parent or guardian.

10. Which seat should I use for my child?

There are four steps to remember when choosing a child safety seat.

1. Infants should be in rear-facing infant or convertible seats from birth to at least one year and 20 pounds.

2. Toddlers should be in forward-facing car seats or convertible seats from at least one year and 20 lbs to around four years and 40 pounds.

3. Booster seats are for children between four and eight years old and 40-80 pounds. (Height and weight limits vary for different seat manufacturers, so always check the seat instructions and vehicle owners manual).

4. Seat belts should be worn by all children and adults taller than 4'9" and more than 70-80 pounds.

11. Can I re-use my carseat after a crash?

NHTSA recommends that child safety seats be replaced following a moderate or severe crash in order to ensure a continued high level of crash protection for child passengers.

Minor crashes are those that meet ALL of the following criteria:

The vehicle was able to be driven away from the crash site;

The vehicle door nearest the safety seat was undamaged;

There is no visible damage to the safety seat.

Clarifying the need for child seat replacement will reduce the number of children unnecessarily riding without a child safety seat while a replacement seat is being acquired, and the number of children who will have to ride without a child seat if a seat were discarded and not replaced. The clarification will also reduce the financial burden of unnecessary replacement.

Stormwater

1. What is a watershed?

A watershed is an area that drains to a common waterway, such as a tributary, stream, creek, lake, river and ultimately the ocean. Claremore’s watersheds are Cat Creek, Dog Creek, Claremore Lake and the Verdigris River.

2. What is stormwater runoff?

Stormwater occurs naturally when it rains or snows. Water flowing off your yard, sidewalk or street flows down to the curb and into the nearest storm drain or ditch. From there, it flows into the vast network of underground pipes and tunnels that make up the storm drain system and is carried to Cat Creek or Dog Creek. Contrary to popular belief, stormwater runoff does not go to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

3. What happens when stormwater runs off?

As stormwater runs off of rooftops and lawns and down driveways and streets, it picks up pollutants and debris. In developed areas where much of the land surface is covered by buildings and pavement, water cannot soak into the ground.

As a result, the stormwater flows over these impervious surfaces and picks up many toxic chemicals from motor oil, lead from auto exhaust, and zinc from roof drains and tires. Stormwater may also contain fertilizer, pesticides, leaves and grass clippings, sediment, bacteria, viruses, and other disease-causing microorganisms can abound in storm water that carries pet waste and litter. These chemicals may kill or impair the health of aquatic life. They make waterways unsafe for swimming and other types of water recreation.

4. What is non-point source pollution?

Non-point source pollution is polluted stormwater runoff that cannot be traced to a single source.

5. Who is responsible for addressing creek flooding?

The City of Claremore can only maintain creeks or streams on public property. It is the responsibility of the home or business owner to maintain creeks or streams on private property.

6. What should I do if I see debris or garbage piled up in the creek at a road cross?

If you see debris accumulating in a creek that could cause a blockage of water flow, please call the Public Infrastructure Department at (918) 341-0133.

1. Why does my water taste/smell funny?

Raw water quality affects the treatability of our drinking water. Sometimes during floods or extremely hot weather, taste and odor causing compounds are present in our source water which conventional treatment will not remove. During these times additional treatment methods are used to enhance treatment. Taste and odor do not affect the safety of our drinking water.

2. Do I need a filter under my sink?

This is your personal preference, if you choose to have a filter or additional treatment device on your side of the meter, be certain to have it installed by a licensed plumber and maintain it according to manufacturer specifications.

1. What is the City of Claremore doing to control the filter flies at the Waste Water Treatment Plant?

We treat the filters with the maximum amount of chemicals allowed by the Department of Environmental Quality, keep the grass trimmed low and routinely clean all external fixtures. In addition to working to keep the plant clean, we have lined the fence surrounding the treatment plant with a fine mesh to keep the flies from migrating and planted a line of fast-growing Evergreen trees to serve as a buffer between the treatment plant and the nearby neighborhood.

2. Why does the plant sometimes smell bad?

It depends upon several factors which affect the functions of the plant. Excessive flow, draining of stormwater collection basins or episodes of toxic influent such as oil can upset the normal functions of the plant which results in odors.
