City of Claremore Partners with NWTF to Host Third Annual Disabled Veteran and Youth Hunt

This weekend, the City of Claremore Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) Wheelin’ Sportsman program, will host its third annual hunt for disabled youth and veterans.

David Daniel, Lake Supervisor at Claremore Lake, has been a longtime NWTF board member and brought the program to Claremore in 2019.

“It is our goal to provide everyone with an opportunity to hunt, regardless of physical ability,” said Daniel. “Many outdoor enthusiasts take for granted how easy it is to get out into the woods. This event enables us to eliminate barriers, such as equipment and set up, to provide an opportunity for all to enjoy the sport of hunting.”

This year’s event will be held on October 16-17 on land owned by the City of Claremore and Claremore Industrial and Economic Development Authority. Daniel secured local sponsors to assist with all aspects of the hunt, including meals and gear. The NWTF covered the cost of the insurance.

This year’s participants are Hesston Williams,, a youth hunter, and Punnie Chittchang, a veteran.

“This event would not be possible without continued community support,” Daniel added. “We greatly appreciate each of our sponsors for helping us make this happen.”

Sponsors included the NWTF, Mayes County Longbeards chapter, Green Country Stutters chapter, City of Claremore, Bill's Sporting Goods, Chik-Fil-A, J. Farley’s Pub, Walke Meat Co., MMS Payne Funeral Home and Wohali.
